Grant Update!

We're still alive and I'm finally giving an update on Grant! It's been hard to find the time when he won't let me focus on anything longer than 5 mins, but his naps are starting to get longer so here it goes! I'll try to make it the reader's digest version.

Grant will be 5 months on Saturday and weighs a whopping 20 pounds and is 28 inches long. He sits up all by himself and can catch himself if he goes forward or to the side. If he goes backwards he's done for so we still put a pillow behind him. He's been in the crib since he was two months, but now when I go into get him he is on his tummy and not on his back where I started him. We're still working on sleeping through the night, but now that he's on rice cereal I'm hoping that it gets better. He is almost in 12 month clothes and has been in nine month clothes since he was 3 months. He is laughing and likes to make all sorts of noises. He's even figured out how to scream :) No teeth yet, but I think I see something white coming through on the bottom. At first I thought it was a reflection, but I always see it so I'm just waiting to see what happens. He loves the water and I can't wait to take him swimming when it warms up a bit. He seems to finally be taking longer naps, but usually I'm lucky if I get 30 mins. Anything and everything within reach goes into his mouth. He is constantly moving and has been like that since he was born. The only time he is still is if he is sleeping. Everyone says I'll hate it, but I really hope that he figures out this crawling thing soon. You can tell that he wants to and just gets so angry when I put him on his stomach and he can't go anywhere. I think that's all the big news for now so here are some pics. We've got some great video too, but I still have to figure out how to load it on to my computer and then on to blogger.

We love this little guy so much and we are so glad that he is part of our family!

Grant Royal Rogers

Grant is here! We are so happy and excited to have our little boy with us! I'm sorry it has taken me two weeks to post about this, but due to some postpartum complications I have slowly been coming back to real life. Kudos to women that have there babies and post the next day, sometimes even while they are in the hospital. Please don't feel like you have to read all the boring details, you're more than welcome to just scroll down to the pictures!

On Tuesday Dec. 2nd we headed down to Sharp Mary Birch at 11:30 for a 1:30 c-section. I was so nervous, but Will had given me a blessing and I was doing my best to remain calm and remember that unlike other surgeries I've had this one ended with a wonderful reward. :) After all the pre-op they took me into the operating room and much to my dismay would not let Will be with me while I had the spinal. After they had me all numbed up they brought Will in and started the procedure. I was really drugged up, but next thing I knew at 2:05pm I heard this little scream and the doctor say, "We made the right decision to do a c-section". Then Will and the baby headed off to the nursery while they finished with me. When they brought me into recovery Will was waiting with the baby and informed me that he weighed 10 lbs 15.8 ounces ie. 11 POUNDS!!!! I couldn't believe it! I thought he was lying. But he wasn't and took a picture of the scale to prove it. He was 21 inches long and his head was 15 centimeters. I had given birth to a three month old newborn :) As I was leaving recovery I saw all these other babies and they were about half the size of Grant!

After 3 days in the hospital we headed home! I have to say that I have a perfect baby :) I'm sure every mother feels this way, so I'm just joining the ranks. He sleeps all the time and when he is awake he is perfectly content to sit in his bouncer and look around. He only cries if he is hungry or needs his diaper changed. He's sleeping about 4 to 4 and half hour stretches through the night, so I get a decent amount of sleep. (Naps are still a wonderful thing though) We are starting to get into a routine and get this nursing thing down. I'm really glad that the first two weeks are over for sooooo many reasons, but part of me is so sad because I'm realizing just how fast time does go. People tell you that, but you don't really know what they are talking about until you experience it. I think Heavenly Father blessed me with such a good baby because I don't think I could have handled a fussy baby on top of the postpartum stuff I had going on. Anyway, we are healthy and happy and I'm totally in love with this little guy. So is Will. We have a hard time setting him down and sometimes I just sit and stare at him for hours! I'm sure it will pass, but for now I'm just soaking it all in! Enjoy the pictures!

Not even an hour old.

My absolute favorite picture of him!!!

Oh and I almost forgot! My dad guessed his weight right on with 10 lbs 15 ounces! Also my good friend Rachel got close with 11 lbs 2 ounces and my cousin Christina 11 lbs 3 ounces. Thanks for playing! It made it so much more fun!

Tomorrow is the big day!

I just wanted to post really quickly and let everyone know that tomorrow is the big day and our new little boy will be here! For those of you that haven't heard we decided to name him Grant. I can't believe after nine months we finally get to meet him! I am so excited and I don't think I've ever seen Will so anxious ( in a happy and excited way) about anything! We decided to take some guesses on how big this boy was going to be. So, please either vote on the provided estimates or if you would like to make a more detailed guess leave a comment. The winner will get honorable mention on our blog :) and have the satisfaction of knowing that they are a good baby weight guesser. Here is the most recent pic of my belly to get an idea of how big he will be. Also at the doctor last week they measured my tummy and it was measuring 44 weeks. Happy Guessing!

Also when I posted about our anniversary I forgot to mention what my sweet husband did! We had decided not to spend the money on gifts this year, but of course we both decided to do a little something. I bought him a stupid movie, which he has assured me is a great gift because now he can enjoy it over and over. He on the other hand, had a special bouquet of my favorite flowers pre-ordered for me. He chose my three favorite flowers, which happen to be, roses, orchids, and stargazer lilies and he put three of each flower in the bouquet since it was out three year anniversary. It was so thoughtful and I just felt like the luckiest girl in the world.

Life is Good! (This is going to be a long one)

I can't believe how long it has been since I posted. I feel like it was just a week ago. Anyway, things have been somewhat eventful around our house. I had another ultrasound on October 27 at 35 weeks to see how big the baby was. My ultrasound at 20 weeks showed that he was two weeks bigger than I was pregnant and my doctor wanted to know if he was going to be a big baby or if it had just been a growth spurt. Well, after the ultrasound I think we can cross growth spurt off the list. He was weighing in at almost 8 pounds and his head alone was measuring at 41 weeks! We met with the doctor and he suggested that we schedule a c-section. He's really worried that the baby is just too big and I'm too small. Will and I have been hoping and praying that I would go into labor early so that I might have a chance at natural birth, but at every doctor's appointment he seems quite cozy and at almost 39 weeks I am showing absolutely no signs of labor!!! So the c-section is scheduled and our little bundle of joy will be here on Dec. 2. I have spent a lot of time lately trying to think of all the positive things about a c-section. Here are a few I have come up with:

1. He won't have a cone head!
2. No labor pain ( I'm not thinking about all the recovery pain)
3.Hmmm..... Well if you have any suggestions let me know

Here is an ultrasound pic:

I'm bummed that it's not a very good one. At the actual ultrasound we could see so much detail. He has a ton of hair and we could see his cute little ears and he was yawning and sucking his thumb. Why couldn't the tech get a picture of that?! Oh well!

Lately Will has been having a problem with his back. The doctor thinks it's a disc, but it's been making half of his foot numb for almost a month now. Luckily the one thing that makes his back feel better is also his new favorite hobby! Mountain Biking! He and my dad go out every Saturday for about 2 hours. They used to go after work too, but it gets dark too early now. This is part of the trail they ride. (Sometimes they make creepy crawly friends along the way)

Will and I just celebrated our 3 year anniversary! Sometimes it feels like we just got married yesterday and other times it feels like we've been together forever. To celebrate we went to the Coronado Boathouse and ate ridiculously expensive, but oh so worth it food!! Will got Alaskan king crab legs and filet mignon and I had a peppercorn crusted ribeye. Even the baked potato that came with my steak was one of the best I've ever had. Then for dessert we had a belgian chocolate molten cake. You know the kind that ooze chocolate when you bite into them and are covered with ice cream and fudge. AMAZING!! Plus we had a gorgeous view of the Coronado bridge over the bay with the full moon. So pretty! Anyway here are some pics of our fun night plus a little walk down memory lane of November 19, 2005! Hopefully my next post will be about our new little boy!
