Grant Royal Rogers

Grant is here! We are so happy and excited to have our little boy with us! I'm sorry it has taken me two weeks to post about this, but due to some postpartum complications I have slowly been coming back to real life. Kudos to women that have there babies and post the next day, sometimes even while they are in the hospital. Please don't feel like you have to read all the boring details, you're more than welcome to just scroll down to the pictures!

On Tuesday Dec. 2nd we headed down to Sharp Mary Birch at 11:30 for a 1:30 c-section. I was so nervous, but Will had given me a blessing and I was doing my best to remain calm and remember that unlike other surgeries I've had this one ended with a wonderful reward. :) After all the pre-op they took me into the operating room and much to my dismay would not let Will be with me while I had the spinal. After they had me all numbed up they brought Will in and started the procedure. I was really drugged up, but next thing I knew at 2:05pm I heard this little scream and the doctor say, "We made the right decision to do a c-section". Then Will and the baby headed off to the nursery while they finished with me. When they brought me into recovery Will was waiting with the baby and informed me that he weighed 10 lbs 15.8 ounces ie. 11 POUNDS!!!! I couldn't believe it! I thought he was lying. But he wasn't and took a picture of the scale to prove it. He was 21 inches long and his head was 15 centimeters. I had given birth to a three month old newborn :) As I was leaving recovery I saw all these other babies and they were about half the size of Grant!

After 3 days in the hospital we headed home! I have to say that I have a perfect baby :) I'm sure every mother feels this way, so I'm just joining the ranks. He sleeps all the time and when he is awake he is perfectly content to sit in his bouncer and look around. He only cries if he is hungry or needs his diaper changed. He's sleeping about 4 to 4 and half hour stretches through the night, so I get a decent amount of sleep. (Naps are still a wonderful thing though) We are starting to get into a routine and get this nursing thing down. I'm really glad that the first two weeks are over for sooooo many reasons, but part of me is so sad because I'm realizing just how fast time does go. People tell you that, but you don't really know what they are talking about until you experience it. I think Heavenly Father blessed me with such a good baby because I don't think I could have handled a fussy baby on top of the postpartum stuff I had going on. Anyway, we are healthy and happy and I'm totally in love with this little guy. So is Will. We have a hard time setting him down and sometimes I just sit and stare at him for hours! I'm sure it will pass, but for now I'm just soaking it all in! Enjoy the pictures!

Not even an hour old.

My absolute favorite picture of him!!!

Oh and I almost forgot! My dad guessed his weight right on with 10 lbs 15 ounces! Also my good friend Rachel got close with 11 lbs 2 ounces and my cousin Christina 11 lbs 3 ounces. Thanks for playing! It made it so much more fun!

Tomorrow is the big day!

I just wanted to post really quickly and let everyone know that tomorrow is the big day and our new little boy will be here! For those of you that haven't heard we decided to name him Grant. I can't believe after nine months we finally get to meet him! I am so excited and I don't think I've ever seen Will so anxious ( in a happy and excited way) about anything! We decided to take some guesses on how big this boy was going to be. So, please either vote on the provided estimates or if you would like to make a more detailed guess leave a comment. The winner will get honorable mention on our blog :) and have the satisfaction of knowing that they are a good baby weight guesser. Here is the most recent pic of my belly to get an idea of how big he will be. Also at the doctor last week they measured my tummy and it was measuring 44 weeks. Happy Guessing!

Also when I posted about our anniversary I forgot to mention what my sweet husband did! We had decided not to spend the money on gifts this year, but of course we both decided to do a little something. I bought him a stupid movie, which he has assured me is a great gift because now he can enjoy it over and over. He on the other hand, had a special bouquet of my favorite flowers pre-ordered for me. He chose my three favorite flowers, which happen to be, roses, orchids, and stargazer lilies and he put three of each flower in the bouquet since it was out three year anniversary. It was so thoughtful and I just felt like the luckiest girl in the world.

Life is Good! (This is going to be a long one)

I can't believe how long it has been since I posted. I feel like it was just a week ago. Anyway, things have been somewhat eventful around our house. I had another ultrasound on October 27 at 35 weeks to see how big the baby was. My ultrasound at 20 weeks showed that he was two weeks bigger than I was pregnant and my doctor wanted to know if he was going to be a big baby or if it had just been a growth spurt. Well, after the ultrasound I think we can cross growth spurt off the list. He was weighing in at almost 8 pounds and his head alone was measuring at 41 weeks! We met with the doctor and he suggested that we schedule a c-section. He's really worried that the baby is just too big and I'm too small. Will and I have been hoping and praying that I would go into labor early so that I might have a chance at natural birth, but at every doctor's appointment he seems quite cozy and at almost 39 weeks I am showing absolutely no signs of labor!!! So the c-section is scheduled and our little bundle of joy will be here on Dec. 2. I have spent a lot of time lately trying to think of all the positive things about a c-section. Here are a few I have come up with:

1. He won't have a cone head!
2. No labor pain ( I'm not thinking about all the recovery pain)
3.Hmmm..... Well if you have any suggestions let me know

Here is an ultrasound pic:

I'm bummed that it's not a very good one. At the actual ultrasound we could see so much detail. He has a ton of hair and we could see his cute little ears and he was yawning and sucking his thumb. Why couldn't the tech get a picture of that?! Oh well!

Lately Will has been having a problem with his back. The doctor thinks it's a disc, but it's been making half of his foot numb for almost a month now. Luckily the one thing that makes his back feel better is also his new favorite hobby! Mountain Biking! He and my dad go out every Saturday for about 2 hours. They used to go after work too, but it gets dark too early now. This is part of the trail they ride. (Sometimes they make creepy crawly friends along the way)

Will and I just celebrated our 3 year anniversary! Sometimes it feels like we just got married yesterday and other times it feels like we've been together forever. To celebrate we went to the Coronado Boathouse and ate ridiculously expensive, but oh so worth it food!! Will got Alaskan king crab legs and filet mignon and I had a peppercorn crusted ribeye. Even the baked potato that came with my steak was one of the best I've ever had. Then for dessert we had a belgian chocolate molten cake. You know the kind that ooze chocolate when you bite into them and are covered with ice cream and fudge. AMAZING!! Plus we had a gorgeous view of the Coronado bridge over the bay with the full moon. So pretty! Anyway here are some pics of our fun night plus a little walk down memory lane of November 19, 2005! Hopefully my next post will be about our new little boy!

The moment you've all been waiting for .... :)

So after many requests and some threats I might add I am posting the infamous prego pics!

Here is the conversation that I have with strangers pretty much anytime I go out it public...

Stranger: "Oh, are you about to have the baby?!"

Me: "No, I still have two months to go."

Stranger: "Oh, so is it twins?"

Me: "No, it's just one"

At this point their eyes bug out of their head and the mouth falls open and I get some response of "Oh you poor thing!"
On the other hand some people say I don't look that big, so I'm not sure who to believe:) Anyway, hope you enjoy!

Being sick is no fun!

I have decided that being sick is harder when you are pregnant! Maybe it's all in my head, but I think part of it is that I can't take medicine. Plus having my head feel all stuffed up has not helped the pregnant dizzy spells. Oh well, life goes on. Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know that I have received your requests for prego pics and as soon as I am feeling better and no longer look like death I will post some. Stay tuned :)

P.S Does anyone have any pregnant friendly cold remedies?

Rogers Update

Hello Friends and Family! If there is anyone out there who still bothers to check our blog I commend your persistence! I know it has been a long time and I am sorry for not updating more often. I will try to do better, but in all honesty I think I wrote that in my last post that had also taken me months to update :) Anyway, here's the scoop:

Back in June we moved in with my parents to save a little money and get ready for our bundle of joy! It has been going so well and we are really grateful that we both have parents that are willing to help in any way they can!

We also decided to have some family pictures taken before I got huge! Will's sister took them down at La Jolla Cove and I was so excited about how great they turned out. ( If anyone is looking for a great photographer at a great price let me know! ) We took a lot more than this, but I didn't want to bore you.

The next big event in our lives was my sister's wedding. They were married on 8-8-08 and there were 26 other brides at the temple that day! 4 sealings an hour and only 30 minutes for each bride to take pics. CRAZY!!!! So Tayler and Jarom being as smart as they are went and took pictures ahead of time on a week day when they had the whole grounds area to themselves. These are some of my favorites.

Tay looked so beautiful and we are so happy that Jarom is a part of our family!

The other thing that has been taking up all our time and energy (mainly my energy) is our little boy that is on the way. I can't believe that we only have three months to go. Sometimes that feels forever away and other times it feels like tomorrow. Anyway, without further ado I would like to introduce baby boy Rogers (no we haven't picked a name) who we have affectionately named Skeletor or Ghost Rider ie. Johnny Blaze. I think you will see why based on the pictures provided below:

Oh and by the way, the baby is the picture on the bottom!

How many people do you know that...

How many people do you know that have fallen out of a 2nd story window?! Well, my count is now at two. Most of you know what happened to my aunt Rhonda. (She is doing very well, by the way, and has already taken her first steps since the accident in December.) So last week on Tuesday I got a phone call from Will saying that I needed to get to my brother and sister in-laws right away because my two year old nephew, Parker, had fallen out of a 2nd story window. He was upstairs sleeping and the next thing everybody knew was that the other two younger boys came running in yelling "Parker fell". Now fortunately he was ok and believe it or not the only thing he walked away with were some stitches above his eye and bruises. We feel so blessed that he was ok.

This is our poor little guy. He was so brave and he only cried when they numbed the area for stitches. I just could not believe that I now knew two people this had happened to, but apparently they told my bro and sis in-law at the hospital that in the summer time they average one child a day who has done something similar to this. It's hot so windows get left open and there is either furniture too close to the window or a toy that the child can crawl on to get to the window. They call the incidents "Failure to Fly". So there is the story of poor Parker's failure to fly.

I don't understand?!

What is up with San Diego weather?!?! For the past week it has been 95 to 100 degrees and today it's raining. I just don't think I'll ever understand.

We're Still Here!

Hello blogging world,

If any of you are still checking in to see if I would ever update again, your efforts have not been in vain. There has been soooo much going on. Back on March 31st we moved in with my aunt. I never thanked everyone personally, but I am so glad for friends and family who came and made the process easier.

We also got to go on another Disneyland trip with my little bro for his first date since his 16th b-day. It was sooo crowded and I will never go on a Saturday again, but it was still a blast.

Will has been working like crazy. He's preparing to take the Senior Human Resource Management Test and was recently nominated to sit on the San Diego Employers Association Board. He hasn't been voted in yet, but I really hope it works out.

For those of you who know my sis, she is engaged and is getting married on 8/8/08. They are so cute and she is so happy.

And for the real reason that I haven't been posting lately. Drum roll please....

The anticipation is killing you isn't it?

Ta Da!!! WE'RE PREGNANT! Now I know some of you already knew so for those of you who did the surprise is that I'm still pregnant. The doctor said that everything looks good. This sonogram was taken at 11 weeks and now I'm about 12 1/2 weeks. We are so excited and can't wait to find out what we are having.

I love the Zoo!!!

I know that most people that live in San Diego have been to the zoo about a bizillion times, but I love it. You always see something new and there is always at least one funny animal. I got to go with my good friend Michelle and her two kids a few weeks ago and we had a blast. This is Michelle and Jared and I laughed so hard when I saw how this turned out.
The goats would eat the leaves out of our hands and Jared kept running around trying to find more.
Here's Jared and I after looking at the bugs. We had such a great day.

March is Here!

Wow, I can't believe it's already March. February flew by and was full of craziness. For those of you who heard we might be moving in with my aunt so I could be her 24 hour caregiver we have decided to hold off for now, but I am currently working with her 3 days a week and I love it. I have always been interested in nursing and getting to work with someone who I care so much about is perfect. Anyway, my aunt came home on Valentine's day and this is her last day in the rehab center with some of her favorite people.

The Happiest Place on Earth

For Lahren's birthday we went to Disneyland, her most favorite place on earth.

Mom and Dad Abernathy joined us for Day 1. We had a blast running around and riding all our favorite rides.

Day 2 brought lots of rain so here we are soaking wet and sporting our ponchos. It was fantastic. The rain cleared out the park and we literally walked on every ride. WOO HOO!!

Since it was raining, and we were already wet, I convinced Will to ride Splash Mountain. The look on my face is because I suddenly realized, as we plunged to the bottom of the hill, that rain drops are much different then buckets of water flying through the air and landing right on top of us.

And you thought it was a kids ride!
